Minera Gaby S.A. is a company whose main activity is the production of copper cathodes of the highest purity. All productive, administrative and strategic processes must necessarily comply with the sustainability variable in the broadest use of the term.
For this reason, we must comply with corporate guidelines and national legal regulations governing mining activity in the country, and also take international regulations that may affect or strengthen our business into consideration.
This is why Minera Gaby S.A. requires to boost the use of renewable energies, given the national and international trends. We shall also promote their use in the mid and long term, in order for them to become part of the ongoing improvement of our processes, such as for example, the measurement of greenhouse gases, the determination of the carbon footprint and the application of energy efficiency management, among other things.
Among our challenges in sustainability, strengthening of environmental management is key. In this respect, the work developed in 2010 resulted in the certification of our Environmental Management System, based on the ISO 14001 Standard, in its 2004 version. Said certification was issued by SGS certifying organization in January 2011. Other important milestones have been an 80% decrease in environmental incidents compared to 2009, as well as the development and implementation of projects filed for Environmental Assessment. The contribution of these projects to sustainable management shall be noticeable in the short and mid term.
Minera Gaby S.A. promotes the use of these practices by the workers, with the purpose of promoting ongoing improvements in our processes and achieving the proposed environmental objectives, within the context of consolidating Codelco as a benchmark for the mining industry.
