Sustainability Strategy, a new outlook

(5) Sustainability Strategy

We want to be part of, immersed and connected with the challenges of the community, contributing to its development and that of the country.

Chile has great challenges; Chileans know this and so does Codelco. For this reason, we will do everything in our reach to fulfill our productive agenda, without forgetting that we are part of an industry and a community that look toward the future. Because of this, we aspire to have an increasingly collaborative relationship with our stakeholders, through greater participation in public-private partnerships.

Our goal is to deliver quality products, both useful and beneficial to society, in whose production process we can ensure the safety and health of all workers, optimize the use of resources, mitigate environmental impacts, and contribute to the communities adjacent to our operations while defending and promoting the copper market. That is to say, incorporate sustainability in all processes as a structural axis of the company’s work, always guided by the common good and the needs of our environment.

The value of sustainability
We seek to be environmentally friendly and integrate ourselves effectively with the communities in which we live and work. We want to positively influence their well-being and quality of life and be recognized as “good neighbors”. (Value Statement, 7.2)

HOW DOES CODELCO MANAGE SUSTAINABILITY

Codelco’s exercise of sustainability is held in the Corporate Policy for Sustainable Development. Due to the importance we assign to it, the greater part of our management is located on the first organizational level through the General Management of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, whose purpose is to be a key player in Codelco’s future so it continues to be the company that contributes the most to the country. It is comprised by the Environment and Community Management and the Occupational Health and Safety Management. Furthermore, in divisions it is managed by the Sustainability and External Affairs Management, the Occupational Health and Safety Management, or equivalent structures. The company’s performance in sustainability is periodically evaluated by the Committee on Corporate Governance and Sustainability, an entity of consultative status in these matters for the Board.
