Residents of Rancagua enjoy swimming classes at El Teniente Stadium

Thanks to a collaborative effort between the copper company and the Municipality of Rancagua, the space will receive 1,280 residents of the commune who will participate in workshops divided into different cycles, age groups and levels of knowledge of the discipline.

In response to the closure of the pool at the Patricio Mekis Sports Complex, more than 1,280 residents of Rancagua will participate in swimming classes at the pool at the El Teniente Stadium. The collaborative project between Codelco División El Teniente and the Municipality of Rancagua will be developed during different cycles during the summer.

Guillermo Devia, Superintendent of Logistics Operations at the El Teniente Services Management, explained that “we want to maintain a policy of sustainability and openness, which is here to stay. We are going to continue opening up spaces. We have many activities next year and we want to invite you to participate with us.”

The workshops for adults are divided into three cycles: January 16-26, January 30-February 9, and February 13-23. In total, more than 720 people from the commune will participate.

The mayor of the commune, Juan Ramón Godoy, thanked “this important joint work that we have had with Codelco Chile, and that has allowed the Sports Corporation to conduct free swimming classes for children and adults from different sectors of Rancagua. Through the Corporation, professionals, lifeguards, instructors and TENS are available.”

Boys and girls will participate in two swimming cycles divided into four groups of 70. In total, 560 children will be able to enjoy the summer outdoors in El Teniente.

Opening the space to the community

Classes for adults are held from Tuesday to Friday in the morning, while boys and girls participate on Saturdays and Sundays, at the same time. The workshops are divided by age groups and level of knowledge of the discipline.

Matías Caro, a resident of the neighborhoods surrounding the commune, said that “I have always been interested in sports and the pool was one of the things I had yet to explore, so I am very happy. I want to thank the Municipality and Codelco for the services provided by this space.”

Paola Rojas, a resident of Manzanal, added that “I had previously taken my son to classes at the pool, but I loved that it was open to the entire community. Now you can sign up and use the facilities at El Teniente Stadium.”

Valeria Martínez, a resident of the Diego Portales sector, added that “I really liked it. I found the pool and the areas to be super nice, super clean, all the people very polite, the spaces nice and comfortable. The people who welcomed us, everything was super good, super comfortable.”

The management of the workshops and registrations are administered by the Municipal Sports Corporation of Rancagua, through its official channels.
