The activity is part of the Division's Volunteer Program, which in the last month has promoted 28 solidarity initiatives for the benefit of nearby communities, with the participation of more than 2,000 workers from the mining company.

As part of the divisional volunteer program, employees and collaborators of the Management of Dams, Tailings and Water Resources (GTRH) delivered 140 gifts to the neighborhood associations of Medialuna de Doñihue and El Arrayán de Lo Miranda. In collaboration with the Management of Sustainability and External Affairs, the group prepared Christmas parties and a visit from Santa Claus.
Germán Sandoval, Sustainability and External Affairs Manager at El Teniente, said that “it is not just about contributing with a gift, but rather being present, sharing and building a relationship of trust with the communities. We believe that this purpose makes a difference. We have made progress so that these activities are permanent and not just done once a year, so that they become a constant link with the communities.”
During the day, the volunteers shared breakfast, enjoyed recreational activities and organized an emotional visit from Santa Claus, creating an emotional and joyful atmosphere.
Johanna Aballay, a specialist engineer at GTRH, said: “People are increasingly willing to cooperate and participate in these activities. I think this is a special time of year to connect with ourselves, with each other and with our neighbours. It is a truly soul-filling experience.”
Gratitude from the communities
Inspired by the divisional purpose of “We give everything for Chile”, the DET Volunteer program seeks to bring workers closer to their community and environment. During 2024, more than 2 thousand volunteers have participated in 104 sports, social, educational and environmental activities.
Deysi Navarro, regional councilor and resident of Doñihue, celebrated that “these activities are appreciated because the children are happy. This is a very vulnerable community, where sometimes up to three families live in one home. For us, it is very important that they continue to cooperate and participate here.”
For her part, Miriam Jorquera Pinto, president of the Medialuna Neighborhood Board in Rinconada de Doñihue, added that “we would like to thank the workers for their initiative in coming to the area, since the children here need it, so their action is very valuable and is appreciated.”
Meanwhile, Patricia Elizabeth Flores Torres, president of the El Arrayán Neighborhood Board, added that “here the children are happy to see the Old Man and receive his gift. This is something that motivates and leaves an important impact on our community.”
