Teniente residents support patients of the Oncology Service of the Regional Hospital

The donation is part of the volunteer program developed by the copper mine's workers. This year alone, more than two thousand representatives of El Teniente have participated and organized different activities for the benefit of the community.

Workers from the Supervisors' Union Role A (SISET) of Codelco División El Teniente delivered school supplies and plastic arts materials for the art therapy workshop of the Oncology Service of the Libertador Bernardo O'Higgins Regional Hospital. The support ensures the continuity of the psychotherapy space for three months for patients of the service.

The unit treats hundreds of people annually for different types of cancer and offers treatments associated with surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and workshops. These include art therapy activities, which aim to use art as psychotherapy to improve physical, mental and emotional well-being.

Aimaitea Álvarez, a teacher at the space, said that “this help is important for them because they realize that there are still loving people who believe in helping them in their processes. The workshop gives them emotional support and helps them heal.”

The support consisted of various stationery items such as cardboard, cutting materials, drawing materials and a significant amount of supplies. “We are happy to contribute and are open to continuing to support future campaigns that can help in this special area or in another area that is needed,” explained Luis Lara, director of the union.

The Supervisors' Union Role A (SISET) is made up of more than 530 workers from all areas of the Division. "It is a way to give back, not only with our work, but also with volunteer work that is expressed in direct support to the community," said Mariela Chávez, treasurer of the organization.

The grant is intended to cover an initial period of three months, with the possibility of renewal and extension, depending on the identified needs.

A new model of community development

This year, more than two thousand workers and collaborators from different El Teniente management departments have organized volunteer work in sports, social, educational, environmental and health-focused areas.
