The initiative benefits employees of the company and its collaborating companies and is part of the Maternity Protection Procedure, which promotes reintegration into the workforce after the postnatal period.

Codelco El Teniente Division inaugurated a Breast Milk Storage Room (ALMA) at the Caletones Foundry for its own workers and collaborators. The action is part of the Maternity Protection Procedure developed by the mining company and which seeks to make working conditions compatible with family and personal responsibilities.
Carolina Marín, head of the Diversity and Inclusion area at El Teniente, explained that “this space enables the postnatal return of workers who are in the process of breastfeeding and has the necessary infrastructure conditions for the adequate maintenance and continuity of breastfeeding.”
The initiative was made possible thanks to collaborative work between the management of Fundición Caletones, Services and Supplies, and Human Resources Management. To access the space, each employee has a personal key.
Miriam González, Human Resources Specialist Analyst at the Foundry Management, explained that “we are making progress in the transformation of our workspace. This room provides a comfortable, carefully equipped environment with easy access.”
The space was equipped with refrigerators, a reclining sofa, a sink and utensils necessary for their comfort. “It is a huge step for us as mothers to have a place that is equipped to continue breastfeeding,” said María Isabel Campos, user and head of the Fusión Conversión unit.
Meanwhile, Pía Moreno, operator of the Oxygen, Air and Nitrogen Plant unit, explained that “I became a mother a year ago, and I returned to work two months ago. I am very happy that the future mothers of the Foundry will have this space.”
