Seven out of 10 Chileans believe the Codelco-SQM agreement is positive for the country

According to the latest measurement from Cadem's Omnibus study, an average of 70% of people informed about the agreement over the last three months have given it a positive evaluation, highlighting its economic and strategic potential for the country.

Santiago, June 16, 2025.- The agreement for lithium production in the Salar de Atacama continues to generate cross-sector support. According to the latest measurement from Cadem's Omnibus study (June 2025), 67% of those informed about the agreement consider it positive for Chile , primarily due to its impact on the economy, job creation, and the consolidation of a global leadership position.

The reasons most mentioned by those surveyed include the agreement's ability to reactivate or improve the economy (45%), generate new job opportunities (28%), and facilitate the sustainable exploitation of a strategic resource such as lithium (17%).

Furthermore, 55% of citizens believe the next government should finalize this agreement to ensure Chile's leadership in the global lithium market , compared to 36% who prefer a re-evaluation.

“This agreement marks a turning point for Chile. For the first time, a state-owned company, through a powerful public-private partnership, will lead lithium production in the Salar de Atacama, leveraging the private sector's expertise accumulated over 30 years, robust public governance, sustainability criteria, and a model that ensures the value of this strategic resource remains in the country. We are very proud of this historic step and also deeply happy that Chileans recognize it and feel it as their own achievement,” emphasized Máximo Pacheco, Chairman of the Board of Codelco.

These results reinforce public support for an alliance that represents not only a business decision, but also a commitment to sustainable development, sovereignty over natural resources, and the well-being of future generations. Chile cannot wait any longer: the window of opportunity for lithium is now, allowing us to become leaders in the production of critical minerals for the global energy transition.
