Sholange Rojas, specialist analyst: “I like the interaction with people and the connection that is generated here”

When she arrived to work at the El Teniente Division in 2001, Sholange Rojas spent most of her time in the personnel file vault. “I came to the Human Resources Department through a contracting company, because there was a mess with the files. There were drawers and drawers containing information on about 4,000 to 5,000 workers. I was like a bookworm looking for things,” she recalls with a smile.

Today, Sholange works as a specialist analyst for the Dams, Tailings and Water Resources Department (GTRH), in addition to providing support to the Human Resources Department. Last month, she was one of eleven people from the Division recognized by Codelco's High Contribution to the organization program.

What is your job about?

My work focuses on logistics, conducting workshops, managing the schedules of both managers, coordinating visits, meetings, payroll, hiring, among other activities. I have a lot of communication with people and I like interacting with them, I like the connection that is generated here.

I never have a day that is the same as another, tasks are always changing, but in general I start by looking at the managers' agendas to prioritize the topics for each day.

How did you come to do the work you do now?
When I finished organizing the folders, I moved on to the Human Resources Administration area, with the workers' retirement plans, and then I worked on the transfer of people who came from the El Salvador Division. We visited the possible places where they were going to live, so they could see which schools their children could go to. I liked that job because I met people who still greet me today.

Then, in 2008, I moved to the Labor Relations area and started working for Codelco. I came to GTRH, where I have been organizationally since 2017, because the manager at the time asked me to lend him some support and I stayed here.

What do you feel the Division has given you over all these years?
Well, I was born and raised in Sewell, I am a Sewellian at heart. My grandparents worked at Codelco. My father worked here for 50 years, in the Mining Department, and retired during the pandemic, in 2020. My family has been linked to Codelco and I am very grateful to the company, because thanks to work I have raised my son.

There are personal things too, of course, the fact that my son was able to study and professionally I am very grateful, because little by little I have gotten to where I am. I am a specialist analyst, I feel great for my age, I am calm and happy about my professional and personal achievements.

Does working at Codelco, a company that delivers its surpluses to all Chileans, have any special meaning for you?

Yes, of course. I feel that, despite not working directly in the operation, I contribute a grain of sand to the development of the country. Above all, in this management, which provides and protects water for the production processes.
