Monitoring room optimizes operations of the Teniente 8 Railway

The trains, which are responsible for removing the mineral from the mine to continue with its processing, are monitored and controlled from a central command, which allows fluid communication between traffic personnel and track maintenance personnel.

More efficient process control is enabled by the command room of the Teniente 8 Railway, which monitors in detail the operation of the trains that transport material from the underground mine to the surface for subsequent treatment.

The optimization was achieved thanks to the collaborative work between traffic and road maintenance personnel, which allows decisions to be made with more information and in less time.

Felipe Viera, shift manager, explains that “the innovation has been beneficial because we have greater control and the ability to observe the entire process and see who supplies and receives the mineral. This change allows us to make decisions more quickly.”

“The fact that we are together, the traffic people with the track maintenance peers, makes communication more fluid, which helps us to make joint and quick decisions,” added Viera.

Miguel Rodríguez, shift manager for Road Maintenance, highlights the collaborative work. “Before, we were separated from the traffic personnel, so it was less expeditious. By monitoring the process together, the operations shift manager and the maintenance shift manager, we improve the response to any inconvenience.”

“The room allows for more practical work. If we have to say something, we have a colleague next to us and it is more comfortable. We all know what our colleague is doing. There is a joint and efficient effort. It improves coordination and communication,” says Patricio San Martín, track maintenance officer.

In addition to operational improvements, the new room included ergonomic concepts in the chairs used by workers and other amenities such as air conditioning.
