Rancagua, January 5, 2026 – As part of its commitment to transparency, safety, and continuous improvement, Codelco's CEO, Rubén Alvarado, led the presentation of the conclusions of the final report from the internal investigative committee regarding the accident that occurred on July 31 at the El Teniente Division. The event, which was broadcast internally to the entire Corporation, included the participation of the Vice President of Mining Resources, Development, and Innovation, Julio Díaz; the Corporate Manager of Occupational Health and Safety, Jorge Camhi; and the General Manager of the El Teniente Division, Claudio Sougarret.
The meeting allowed the organization to learn the main lessons and conclusions derived from the investigative process, reinforcing the importance of safety as a central and permanent value in all Codelco operations, as well as the need to strengthen controls, leadership and preventive management.
Meanwhile, the El Teniente Division continues to implement the Safe and Progressive Restart of Operations Plan. During the week, the average number of workers on shifts A and C was 9,918, of whom 3,266 entered the mine. Milling processing averaged 102,000 tons per day, with 95,100 tons sent daily to the Colón Plant and 8,400 tons to the Sewell Plant.
At the close of 2025, the division met its total committed ore tonnage, as well as its production target—revised after the accident—for new and commercial copper by January 1, 2026. At the mine, operations remained normal, despite minor staffing restrictions during the January 1 holiday. The Concentrator Plant operated steadily, with SAG 1 and SAG 2 as its mainstays, and also brought the unit milling operation online by the end of the week. Meanwhile, the Smelter maintained continuous and stable operations with the Teniente 2 Converter and Gas Cleaning Plant No. 1, smelting 1,516 tons of concentrate per day and casting 248 metric tons of fine copper per day during the period.
Regarding audits, 88 requests from various services and authorities remain, of which 71 have already been answered, while the rest are still being processed within the established deadlines.
