Codelco's manager receives prestigious international award as industry leader in sustainability

London, October 22, 2026 – At the ICA Industry Leaders Forum held in London, Claudia Sandoval Contreras, Social Management Manager at Codelco, was recognized in the “sustainability” category of the 2026 ICA Industry Leaders Awards . This recognition program, promoted by the International Copper Association (ICA), annually highlights the leadership of professionals worldwide in the copper industry.

The jury evaluated the nominations based on the measurable impact and results of the initiatives presented (40%), the innovation and originality of the approach (30%), the contribution to the industry beyond the applicant's own role (20%), and the applicants' track record and future potential (10%). This year, the value of the social performance model implemented by Sandoval and his team at Codelco was highlighted. This model strategically links the operational viability and sustainability of the mining business with the development of communities and territories.

Among the projects recognized by ICA, Codelco's Territorial Strategy with Social Value (ETVS), approved in April 2025, stands out. This strategy is structured to strengthen preventive socio-environmental management, build trust with stakeholders, and capture shared value. Through the ETVS, the state-owned company recorded a social investment of US$31.2 million in 2025 across 369 initiatives focused on areas such as employment and local economic development, education, environmental protection, infrastructure, and basic services.

In addition, there is the Human Rights Strategy, developed collaboratively in 2024 and consolidated in 2025, which has enabled the training of more than 2,500 workers and nearly 1,000 contract administrators of the Corporation; as well as auditing 393 prioritized contracting companies (94% of the defined universe) in compliance with human rights commitments and achieving the signing of a Human Rights Affidavit by suppliers in 938 contracts.

Also valued was the participatory design of the Indigenous Peoples Strategy, built through 31 dialogue instances with the participation of 407 community representatives in the Antofagasta and Atacama regions, among other territorial stakeholders , under standards such as those of the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) and The Copper Mark.

“This recognition positions Codelco as a benchmark for sustainability within the global copper industry and externally validates a production method that seeks to reconcile competitiveness, environmental and social responsibility, and long-term value creation. We must continue to reinforce a key idea: the success of our business is deeply linked to the well-being of the communities and the legitimacy of our operations in the territories,” commented Claudia Sandoval, regarding the institutional impact of the distinction.
