Santiago, June 3, 2026 – Codelco's CEO, Rubén Alvarado Vigar, submitted his resignation after serving in this capacity since September 2023, leading the Corporation through the various challenges it has faced during this period. The Board of Directors expresses its gratitude for his work during his tenure.
Consequently, after an extraordinary session, Codelco's board of directors agreed to appoint Jorge Gómez Díaz as the company's new CEO. Gómez will assume the position on July 13, while Rubén Alvarado will continue in that role until that date.
Codelco's Chairman of the Board, Bernardo Fontaine, stated that “Jorge Gómez is one of the most recognized and respected executives in Chilean mining. His solid operational and management experience, his outstanding ability to lead high-performing teams, and his vision of mining as a means to generate sustainable value for workers and communities will be key to facing the challenges of this new phase for Codelco. We are very pleased that he has accepted this challenge.”
Fontaine added that “the new CEO’s focus will be on the safety of people as a priority, generating profitability and maximizing contributions to the State, management control and operational, environmental and social sustainability.”
Jorge Gómez, a civil mining engineer from the University of Atacama, has over 30 years of distinguished experience in the mining industry. He will assume his new role at Codelco after leading Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi for the past 14 years. During his tenure as CEO, he spearheaded a profound transformation of the company, positioning it among the most relevant, efficient, and safe operations in the industry worldwide. Under his leadership, the company achieved outstanding results in operational performance, value creation, and safety.
Previously, he served as Vice President of Operations for the Central-Southern Region of Codelco, overseeing the Andina, El Teniente, Ventanas, and Salvador divisions. He also served as Vice President of Operations for Antofagasta Minerals from 2006 to 2010, General Manager and Operations Manager of Minera Los Pelambres from 1997 to 2006, and held various senior positions at Compañía Minera Mantos de Oro.
His career also includes active participation in trade associations and institutions. He was president of the Mining Council between 2018 and 2022 and a director of Sonami for two terms. In 2025, he was recognized by EY Chile and El Mercurio with the Executive of the Year award, an honor bestowed upon him for his leadership and contribution to the development of the Chilean mining industry.
