The state-owned company was highlighted for offsetting 100% of the emissions from its taxed sources in the Ventanas Division, through the acquisition of carbon certificates associated with the "Los Cururos Wind Farm" wind farm project.
Santiago, May 12, 2026.- Codelco was recognized by the Ministry of the Environment within the framework of the 2025 Green Tax Compensation System, after offsetting 100% of the CO₂ emissions from taxed fixed sources of the Ventanas Division, through carbon certificates linked to the “Los Cururos Wind Farm” wind farm project of AES Andes.
“Offsetting is a complement, not a substitute. Our focus remains on reducing emissions at the source, but offsetting allows us to accelerate climate action, promote clean energy, and strengthen this emerging market,” explained María José Ruiz-Esquide, Corporate Director of Climate Change and Decarbonization at Codelco.
This milestone represents an important step forward in integrating climate action into the financial and operational management of the state-owned company, incorporating mechanisms that meet high standards of environmental integrity, traceability and verification, while strengthening the development of renewable energy projects in Chile.
This recognition reflects Codelco's relevance in promoting more sustainable mining and in driving instruments that support the energy transition, in line with its 2050 Decarbonization Roadmap and its commitment to the sustainable development of Chile.
