Rancagua, September 24, 2026 - In the framework of the special session held this Thursday by the Mining and Energy Commission of the Chamber of Deputies in Rancagua, Codelco reaffirmed its total commitment to the safety of people, transparency and full collaboration with the competent bodies and the Public Prosecutor's Office.

The event was attended by the general manager of the El Teniente Division, Julio Díaz, and the corporate manager of Geosciences, César Pardo, who both praised the Commission's relocation to the O'Higgins Region. Also present were Representatives Valentina Cáceres and Paula Olmos, and Representatives Cristián Tapia, Fernando Ugarte, Bernardo Salinas, and Carlo Arqueros; as well as the acting regional governor of O'Higgins, Natalia Sánchez; the acting national deputy director of Mining for Sernageomin, Gabriel Jeldres; the acting regional director of Sernageomin, Roberto Coloma; and the mayor of Machalí, Juan Abud.

In legal matters, Codelco emphasized its active and transparent cooperation with the investigation led by the Public Prosecutor's Office to clarify the facts, respecting the memory of the six deceased workers and the right of their families to know the truth. To date, the company has provided the prosecuting body with more than 56,000 technical documents, equivalent to 1.5 terabytes of information, responding to more than 3,500 requests contained in 27 official communications.

During the session, executives from the state-owned mining company also detailed a comprehensive plan for preventive reinforcement and control of deep geomechanical risks at the El Teniente Division. This plan is based on evidence and recommendations gathered by Codelco's Internal Investigation Commission, the International Expert Group led by Mark Cutifani, and lessons learned from the recently created Studies and Methods Management Department at El Teniente.

Among the concrete advances, the preventive seismic monitoring network was defined and expanded using five polygons under the "On-Off" model, a mechanism that activates the immediate protection of personnel when the seismic frequency falls outside control parameters. This is complemented by the updating of Fatality Risk Standards RF18 and RF19, related to rockfalls and explosions in underground mining; the implementation of bi-weekly on-site inspections with the direct participation of Sernageomin (National Geology and Mining Service); the development of new studies and surveys to understand the phenomenon; and the deployment of intensive safety training programs reaching more than 63,000 workers, including those from contracting companies, so far in 2026.
