Codelco reports the death of two workers from a subcontractor company at El Teniente following an avalanche

Rancagua, October 11, 2026 – With deep regret, Codelco reports that, as part of the search and rescue operations deployed following the avalanche this afternoon in the open-pit mine area of the El Teniente Division, the two contractor workers who had been missing were found. Despite the efforts of the emergency teams and the maneuvers carried out at the site, the deaths of both workers were confirmed.

In accordance with established protocols for this type of emergency, the official announcement of this tragic death was made only after the contracting company, San Lorenzo, had previously informed the workers' families. At this difficult time, the Corporation expresses its deepest condolences and solidarity to the families, loved ones, coworkers, and teams of the companies affected by this painful loss.

Likewise, personnel from the Investigations Police (PDI) and the Public Prosecutor's Office are at the scene to carry out the corresponding procedures and contribute to clarifying the circumstances of this accident.

Both workers belong to the subcontractor company San Lorenzo, which in turn provides services to the contractor company Aura, and were carrying out inspection work in sectors of the open-pit mine, whose operations were stopped due to bad weather.

The Corporation reiterates that the safety and lives of its employees are essential and non-negotiable values in its operations and that its priority at this time is focused on addressing this emergency. Codelco will continue to cooperate in clarifying the circumstances of this accident and will remain attentive to the measures taken by the contracting companies to support the families of the deceased workers.
