Codelco strengthens its executive team to face strategic and operational challenges

Codelco strengthens its executive team to face strategic and operational challenges

Santiago, August 14, 2026 - Through a Material Fact reported to the Financial Market Commission (CMF), Codelco reported a series of changes in its executive team, within the framework of the new stage initiated with the arrival of Jorge Gómez to the Executive Presidency of the company.

In this way, Codelco's new executive team will integrate the capabilities of the professionals who are joining - all with recognized experience in the mining industry and several of them with previous experience working with Gómez and his full professional trust - with the talent of those who currently make up Codelco's leadership team.

“We are strengthening an excellent team, with experienced professionals, technical skills, and in-depth industry knowledge. Our goal is to reinforce safety as a fundamental value of our management, stabilize the company's operations, and rigorously execute the strategy that will allow us to recover Codelco's results,” said the state-owned company's CEO, Jorge Gómez.

Changes in vice presidencies:

Lindor Quiroga Bugueño will assume the role of Vice President of Northern Operations. Quiroga holds a degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Atacama and an MBA from Adolfo Ibáñez University. With a distinguished 20-year career at Codelco, he has served as General Manager of the Radomiro Tomic Division and the Andina Division. He is known for his deep understanding of the mining business, his experience in managing large-scale operations, and a people-oriented leadership style focused on operational excellence and building high-performing teams.

Francisco Carvajal Palacios will assume the role of Vice President of Operations for the Central-South region. Carvajal holds a degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Antofagasta and an MBA from Adolfo Ibáñez University. He has also completed advanced management and leadership studies at the University of Oxford. With over 30 years of experience in the copper, iron, and gold mining industry, he has a proven track record in leading and transforming large-scale operations and implementing strategies focused on strengthening safety, productivity, and efficiency. He has led operations at Collahuasi and Antofagasta Minerals, and until June of this year, he was the General Manager of CMP.

Mario Quiñones will assume the Vice Presidency of Mining Resources, Development, and Innovation. A Civil Mining Engineer from the University of Santiago, Chile, he has nearly 30 years of experience in the industry, particularly in the management of mining resources and reserves, and open-pit copper operations. He served as Vice President of Development and Sustainability at Collahuasi for 14 years, leading strategic resource planning, growth projects, and sustainable business management. He is recognized for his expertise in resources and reserves, environmental permitting, community relations, and the development of long-term initiatives focused on value creation and competitiveness within the mining industry.

Leonardo Biaggini will assume the position of Vice President of Strategy and Management Control. A Civil Industrial Engineer from Arturo Prat University and an MBA from the University of Chile, he has over 23 years of experience in the copper mining industry. Biaggini is known for his expertise in investment evaluation, corporate governance, strategic planning, and operational excellence, making significant contributions to value creation and the sustainability of the mining business. Until now, he served as Strategic Risk and Management Control Manager at Collahuasi, where he led risk management, financial planning, and corporate management control.

Pablo Villarino will join the state-owned company as Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability. A graduate of Gabriela Mistral University with over 30 years of experience in corporate affairs, regulation, and sustainability, Pablo previously served as Principal of Corporate Affairs at Transelec, following a distinguished executive career at ENGIE Chile. He has led processes related to institutional relations, permitting, sustainability, and strategic communications, and is recognized for his ability to build agreements between companies, authorities, and communities within the context of the energy transition.

Changes in General Management:

Meanwhile, Julio Díaz, Codelco's current Vice President of Mining Resources, Development, and Innovation, will assume the role of General Manager of the El Teniente Division . Díaz is a Mining Civil Engineer from the University of Chile, with a distinguished career in the mining industry, encompassing operations, project management, innovation, and business development. He has held leadership positions at Antofagasta Minerals, BHP, and Codelco, spearheading growth initiatives, project launches, and large-scale operations management. He led the Radomiro Tomic Division and subsequently served as Vice President of Mining Resources Management, Development, and Innovation at Codelco.

Ricardo Weishaupt will assume the General Management of the Chuquicamata Division. A Chemical Civil Engineer from the University of Chile and a Master of Science in Mineral Economics from Curtin University of Technology, he has extensive experience at Codelco, leading strategic areas related to smelting, refining, mining operations, and project commissioning. He has held executive positions in the Chuquicamata, Salvador, and Ventanas divisions, assuming significant responsibilities in the management of metallurgical and production assets. Since 2020, he has served as General Manager of the Ventanas Division, leading the division's operational and strategic challenges within the context of industry and corporate transformation.

Claudio Flores will assume the role of interim general manager of the Ventanas Division. Flores is a lawyer from Gabriel Mistral University, has over 20 years of experience at Codelco in various divisions, and currently serves as Human Resources Manager for the Ventanas Division.

Additionally, Thomas Gleisner Rivas, the current Mine Manager of the Ministro Hales Division, was appointed as interim General Manager . Gleisner is a mining engineer from the University of Chile and has over 15 years of experience in operations, leading projects, and technological transformation within the mining industry.

With these appointments, Codelco seeks to consolidate an executive team that combines knowledge of the Corporation with experience acquired in different companies and operations in the industry, incorporating complementary capabilities to advance its strategic and operational priorities.

The changes will take effect from September 1, 2026, except for the appointment of Ricardo Weishaupt, which will take effect from August 15, 2026.
