Santiago, May 27, 2026 - Bernardo Fontaine Talavera assumed the role of Chairman of the Board of Directors of Codelco, on a day in which he met with the CEO of the state mining company, Rubén Alvarado.

The economist was appointed to the position by the President of the Republic, José Antonio Kast, in line with the provisions of Law No. 20,392 that regulates the corporate governance of Codelco.

Prior to joining the Corporation, Fontaine enjoyed an extensive professional career spanning more than three decades. He has served as an executive, advisor, and director of companies, holding positions on over 20 boards in the financial, industrial, real estate, retail, insurance, logistics, and public utilities sectors, at companies such as CMR Falabella, Citibank Chile, Banco BICE, LAN Chile, Metro de Santiago, and Coca-Cola Embonor. Since 2002, he has also worked as an independent advisor and entrepreneur, participating in the development of investment projects, mergers and acquisitions, and the structuring of family offices .

Alongside his business career, he has actively participated in the public policy debate on economic issues in the country. He was elected to the Constitutional Convention in 2021, where he served on, among others, the Environment and Economic Model Commission.
