Codelco reports progress in family assistance, operations status, and research

Rancagua, August 6, 2025.- Codelco reported this afternoon on the progress of the support plan for the families of the deceased workers, the status of operations at the El Teniente Division, and the investigation following the accident.

As part of the Family Assistance Plan , Carlos Arancibia's funeral was held today in La Serena, a ceremony attended by the President of the Republic. Codelco's Vice President of People Management, Mary Carmen Llano, participated on behalf of Codelco. Gonzalo Núñez's funeral was also held in Rancagua. The company has provided funeral assistance to four of the five families, while the fifth opted not to receive support.

As part of the Psychological Support and Containment Plan , 78 people have received assistance from the El Teniente Division's Mental Health Containment and Assistance Program. In addition, within the framework of the support and containment plan, coordination meetings were held with the main collaborating companies for underground works: Aura, DMC, Bormax, CYGSA, and Enaex.

Regarding the status of operations , underground mining activity remains suspended by Sernageomin (Ministry of Mines and Energy). On shift B, a reduced workforce of 434 workers is maintained to safeguard the facilities. Aboveground, cleaning and maintenance work is being carried out at plants and foundries, in addition to maintenance work on equipment in anode furnaces.

Regarding the investigation , the PDI (National Investigation Department) is continuing its efforts in the industrial area under the direction of the Regional Prosecutor's Office. Sernageomin (National Police) is conducting inspections in all interior mine sectors and has responded to three requests for information from the agency and the Labor Directorate. Meanwhile, the Regional Disaster Risk Management Committee is meeting in Rancagua, while Codelco's Internal Investigation Commission, headed by Julio Díaz, Vice President of Mining Resources, Development, and Innovation, continues to advance. Parliamentarians have requested that the next session of the Chamber of Deputies' Mining Commission be held in Rancagua or Machalí.
