Rancagua, August 9, 2025.- Codelco submitted a new report on the actions taken following the accident that occurred on July 31 at the El Teniente Division.
Regarding support and support, the company reported that new contractors have joined the Support and Support Plan for employees, reaching 71% of the workforce in the Mine, Mine Maintenance, and Mine Works departments. To date, 5,684 people, including its own employees and those of collaborating companies, have participated in reflection and support sessions, including group activities such as "Together in Grief," discussions, lectures, and workshops. In addition, the Psychosocial Support and Guidance Center (CECOP) has served 679 employees, and continues to provide direct psychological and social assistance to the families of the victims.
Regarding the status of operations, Codelco reported that the National Geology and Mining Service (Sernageomin) authorized the partial and gradual restart of underground operations in the Pilar Norte, Esmeralda and Esmeralda Panel, Upper Pacific, Diablo Regimiento, Reno Panel, Dacite, and Reservas Norte sectors. However, the work stoppage remains in place in the Recursos Norte, Andesita, Andes Norte, and Diamante sectors. The restart of operations remains subject to the lifting of the self-suspension by the Labor Directorate.
In this context, the Safe and Progressive Restart of Operations Plan has begun, which includes safety, habitability, containment, and operational readiness measures for its own and contractor workers. For now, only critical personnel are entering the mine interior to safeguard facilities, along with shifts C (646 people) and A (1,840 people) for maintenance work. The smelter maintains scheduled work, and testing and maintenance are being performed at the plant, also ensuring the operation of the water and tailings conduction systems.
In the area of oversight and investigation, a team from the Labor Directorate was deployed inside the mine and in the industrial area to conduct inspections prior to restarting operations. Codelco has received 20 requests from various oversight and investigation authorities, including Sernageomin, the Labor Directorate, the Regional Prosecutor's Office, the Chamber of Deputies, the PDI (National Police), and the Regional Ministry of Health, with no delays in providing information. The company's Internal Investigative Commission continues its work on the ground.
Codelco reiterated that the central objective of all the actions undertaken is to ensure that any return to operations is carried out under conditions that fully guarantee the safety and well-being of people.
Codelco
