Codelco El Teniente reports progress in family assistance, return to operations, and research

Rancagua, August 10, 2025.- Codelco's El Teniente Division reported this Sunday on the actions implemented in three key areas: support for families, the status of operations, and the investigation into the accident that occurred on July 31.

This morning, in honor of Miners' Day, a minute of silence was observed at all company facilities, candles were lit, and sirens were sounded in tribute to the six deceased workers. The company also continues to provide information and psychological and social support to their families.

The Labor Directorate authorized Saturday night the partial and gradual restart of underground operations in the Pilar Norte, Esmeralda Panel, Esmeralda, Upper Pacific, Diablo Regimiento, Reno Panel, Dacita, and Reservas Norte sectors, following the authorization already granted by Sernageomin. The shutdown remains in place in Recursos Norte, Andesita, Andes Norte, and Diamante.

Safe and progressive restart plan

The return to work is carried out under a special plan that includes reflection sessions at the beginning of each shift, where workers are informed about the return plan, support measures, safety protocols, and actions of the supervisory authority. It also includes ensuring two-way communication within the mine; strengthening presence control and verification using TAG and TIP systems; checking personal protective equipment; reviewing habitability conditions; ongoing dissemination of the seismic activity status; ongoing information for unions; and coordination with collaborating companies to ensure that information reaches all workers.

The restart began with Shift C, consisting of 710 people—131 of whom entered the mine interior—and Shift A, with 1,770 workers assigned to reactivation tasks. During this first shift, ore shipments to the plant were approximately 50% lower than usual. At the same time, operations at the plant and smelter resumed.

In the area of inspection, two Sernageomin inspectors arrived this Sunday to conduct inspections in the Andes Norte sector. The company reported that it has received 21 requests from various oversight and investigative authorities—including Sernageomin, the Labor Directorate, the Attorney General's Office, the Chamber of Deputies, the PDI (Public Defense Attorney's Office), and the Regional Ministry of Health—all of which have been responded to promptly. Codelco's Internal Investigative Commission continues its sessions to clarify the causes of the accident.
