Codelco is making progress in an independent investigation led by international experts

The International Expert Group, led by Mark Cutifani, continues to evaluate technical, operational and cultural factors following the accident at El Teniente, reaffirming the company's commitment to safety and transparency.

Santiago, November 24, 2025. Codelco reported that the independent investigation into the accident that occurred on July 31 at the El Teniente Division is progressing as scheduled. The process is being led by the International Expert Group, comprised of Mark Cutifani, Vivianne Blanlot, and Eduardo Bartolomeo, who in recent weeks have continued to hold meetings and interviews with executives from the division and the Corporation.

This multidisciplinary team is tasked with conducting a comprehensive evaluation of the technical, operational, human, cultural, and organizational factors that influence the safety of operations. Their work aims to identify opportunities for improvement and establish recommendations that strengthen preventative management throughout the company.

Meanwhile, El Teniente's General Manager, Claudio Sougarret, led a safety review with over 200 operations supervisors. The session focused on reinforcing critical risk controls, particularly in road and driving areas, reaffirming the company's priority of protecting people's lives and health.

Operationally, the Safe and Gradual Restart of Operations Plan remained active, with an average of 11,856 workers on shifts A and C during the week, of whom 3,540 entered the mine. During the week, 81,000 tons of ore were sent to the Colón plant and 10,600 tons to the Sewell plant. The Concentrator Plant remained operational with SAG 1 and SAG 2 lines running.

Regarding regulatory matters, Codelco remains committed to transparency and cooperation with regulatory authorities. To date, 60 of the 85 official requests received have been answered, while the remainder are being processed within the established timeframes. Simultaneously, the company continues to provide information and support to the families of deceased workers.

The Corporation reiterates that safety is a non-negotiable value and that the various investigations being carried out regarding the accident at El Teniente will be fundamental to strengthening the preventive culture, and guaranteeing safe and sustainable operations in all its divisions.
