Codelco updates assistance plan, operations status, and investigations at El Teniente Division

The state-owned company established a working group with contracting companies representing more than 5,000 people and strengthened controls and protocols inside the mine as part of its safe restart plan.

Rancagua, August 12, 2025.- Codelco reported that it continues to provide psychological and social support for the families of the workers killed in the El Teniente Division accident, as well as for its own and partner companies' staff. To date, 10,659 people have participated in reflection and support sessions, of which 9,774 have participated in group activities such as "Together in Grief," discussions, lectures, and workshops. The Psychosocial Support and Guidance Center (CECOP) has responded to 885 inquiries through its call center .

In terms of management, Claudio Sougarret took over as interim general manager of the division. Additionally, Codelco convened a working group with contracting companies and their union leaders, representing more than 5,000 people at the Andesita and Recursos Norte projects, to coordinate a safe return to operations. The first session was attended by Codelco's Chairman of the Board, Máximo Pacheco.

The temporary shutdown of operations at Recursos Norte, Andesita, Andes Norte, and Diamante remains in place while the Safe and Progressive Restart Plan progresses. In the latest operating report, shift C registered 1,256 workers, of whom 173 entered the mine interior; and shift A totaled 6,035 workers, with 769 entering underground. Panel Esmeralda, Esmeralda, Panel Reno, Pilar Norte, Diablo Regimiento, and Pacífico Superior are currently in production, while Dacita and Reservas Norte will resume operations in the following shifts. On Monday, 52.4 thousand tons of ore were shipped to the Colón plant and 8.6 thousand tons to Sewell. SAG 2 is operating at a rate of 1,800 to 2,300 tons per hour, SAG 1 is undergoing maintenance, and the conventional mill is awaiting ore. The smelter is stockpiling concentrate to begin processing.

The third session of the Strategic Advisory Group convened following the accident was held today. It was attended by André Sougarret, Laurence Golborne, Codelco's CEO, Rubén Alvarado, and other vice presidents. Regarding the investigations, Codelco has received 28 requests from various supervisory and judicial authorities, including Sernageomin (Ministry of Labor), the Labor Directorate, the Regional Prosecutor's Office, the Chamber of Deputies, the PDI (Public Defense Attorney's Office), and the Regional Secretary of Health, with no delays in responses. At the same time, the Internal Investigative Commission continues to operate, and joint visits have been made to the division's industrial areas with Sernageomin (Ministry of Labor) and the Labor Directorate.
