More than 20,000 workers and collaborators have participated in reflection, support, and training sessions at El Teniente

Codelco released a new report on Wednesday on the measures taken following the accident at the El Teniente Division.

Santiago , August 20, 2025. The state-owned company detailed that more than 20,000 workers, teams from the Vice Presidency of Projects, and collaborators have participated in reflection, support, and training sessions, while information and support are provided to the families of deceased workers.

In parallel, the company is making progress with its Safe and Progressive Restart of Operations Plan. On Tuesday, 1,461 people were hired on shift C, of whom 352 entered the mine interior, while on shift A, 6,929 workers participated, with 870 working inside the mine interior. Additionally, 76.4 thousand tons of ore were dispatched to the Colón plant and 9.9 thousand tons to the Sewell plant. The smelter, meanwhile, is operating normally through the Teniente 1 Converter and the Gas Cleaning Plant 2, producing 622 fine metric tons.

Regarding the investigation, the chairman of the board, Máximo Pacheco, the chief executive, Rubén Alvarado, and the vice president of operations, Mauricio Barraza, appeared before the Senate's Mining and Energy Committee for a second time to provide background on the accident. Union leaders from El Teniente also appeared before the Chamber of Deputies' Mining and Energy Committee.

Codelco reported that 46 requests have been filed so far from various supervisory and investigative authorities, including Sernageomin, the Labor Directorate, the Regional Prosecutor's Office, the PDI (National Police), the Regional Ministry of Health, and the Superintendency of Social Security, all of which have been responded to within the established timeframes. Meanwhile, the Prosecutor's Office and the PDI continue their investigations in the mine's interior industrial area, and Sernageomin is conducting on-site inspections.
