Genesis Arauco, maintenance analyst at Diablo Regimiento: “I am proud that the company dares to open its doors to women”

“I applied for the Apprenticeship program and although it was a long process, thank God I got in and here I am. I first started as a LHD (front loader) maintenance worker, until they gave us the opportunity to learn the SAP platform, which they trained us on and that is what I am doing now,” she says.

What is your job about?
In the SAP platform I enter all the notices and order numbers of the equipment that is out of service, to see the availability of equipment. We also see the hours that must be used to service the equipment, the spare parts to be used and we interact a lot with production, to request the equipment for maintenance.

What does it mean to you to be a woman in mining?

I feel that it is an achievement, because there are not many women in the industry today. In addition, I was one of the first to join here as an apprentice and equipment maintainer.

Women have a different outlook, we are more thorough, more detailed. Being here is a great achievement because there is a good working environment with our colleagues.

How have these two years at El Teniente been for you?

When we arrived, the workshop needed a female eye, so to speak, because we are more organized. Here, order and cleanliness were already done by the children, but now it is done more. We also implemented the 5S (a Japanese method of standardizing order and cleanliness in workplaces to achieve greater productivity and a better work environment), so order and the elimination of things that are no longer useful have improved, everything is in its code.

How do you feel about working for a company like Codelco, which gives its surpluses to all Chileans?

I am very proud to work for the most important company in Chile. And I am very proud that the company dares to open its doors to women. We are waiting for them here!
