Regional and Codelco authorities participated in the launch of the exhibition that brings together suppliers from small and large mining. El Teniente showed its advances in innovation, technology, diversity, security and sustainability.
A new version of ExpoMinería Sur 2024 was inaugurated at Codelco's El Teniente stadium, an activity that will run until August 29 and is sponsored by Sernageomin and the Seremi de Minería of the O'Higgins Region.
This year's programme of activities will be guided by three fundamental axes for the mining industry: technology and innovation, female participation and education.
Along these lines, El Teniente was represented by the Mediterranean Ecosystems Research Centre (CEIEM); the Rescue and Emergency brigades of the Mine and the Concentration Plant and innovations such as a specialised drone for modelling 3D tunnels in underground mines; a robot dog specialised in the safe and efficient inspection of conveyor belts and AutoMine stations for the remote operation of autonomous mobile equipment.
The general manager of El Teniente, Andrés Music, recalled that “these three days will allow us to explore and debate the challenges and opportunities of mining in our region. We are at the El Teniente stadium in Rancagua, an emblematic place that also symbolizes the sporting history and the historical belonging of our Division to the O'Higgins region.”
For the Seremi of Mining of O'Higgins, Bárbara Gavia, "this fair is very important because it allows the meeting of contracting companies, local suppliers, Codelco, people from education and mining high schools, among others, who come together here to share experiences."
O'Higgins, mining region
The main objectives of Expo Minería Sur are to recognize and consolidate the O'Higgins region as a key area in the management of mining resources and the prevention of risks and occupational health in this area. It also seeks to generate a hub for business and interaction between the different actors that make up the mining structure of the region and the country.
The manager of Occupational Health and Safety at El Teniente, Maximiliano González, called for “us to take advantage of this Expo Minería Sur to share ideas, learn from each other and strengthen our ties. Let us commit ourselves to ensuring that initiatives like these endure over time and become consolidated as a hub for mining meetings to benefit the region and the country.”
In addition to the participation of suppliers from small and large mining sectors, the exhibition, which is open to the community free of charge, will feature interactive activities between speakers, exhibitors and attendees, as well as actions such as workshops, master classes and mentoring.
Entrepreneurs from Coya and Doñihue who are supported by the El Teniente Division also gathered at the stadium grounds.
