Coya School of Goldsmiths inaugurates courses in Advanced Jewelry and Goldsmithing

The courses are made possible by the investment of Codelco División El Teniente's training surpluses, through Sence Labor Scholarships, and promoted by the Pro O'Higgins Corporation.

With the support of Codelco División El Teniente, the Coya School of Goldsmiths began a new training cycle with the opening of courses in Jewelry and Advanced Goldsmithing. These training sessions are possible thanks to the investment of training surpluses, channeled through Sence Labor Scholarships and promoted by the Pro O'Higgins Corporation.

In the Jewelry course, students learn everything from metal alloys to the creation of pieces. In Advanced Goldsmithing, meanwhile, they delve into techniques such as enameling, tinning and blacksmithing.

Cristián Sanhueza, Community Development Director of El Teniente, explained that “this not only provides training opportunities for the goldsmiths of the region, but also promotes the creation of quality products that highlight the identity and resources of this territory, such as copper, which we now share with the community.”

Braulio Gúzman, general manager of Pro O'Higgins, highlighted that “it contributes to generating a culture related to copper, through the expression of goldsmithing and jewelry. We know that there is a high percentage of students who dedicate themselves to this discipline and generate a permanent income thanks to the School.”

In addition, the school provides technical and administrative support to its students along with a subsidy of tools upon completion of the courses, thus encouraging entrepreneurship and the creation of local products.

Denis Célèry, professor and founder, said that “the number of coppersmiths we have in the region is unique. Their training not only enriches our community of artisans, but also reinforces the vision of O'Higgins as the capital of coppersmithing.”
