The initiative, developed jointly by Sernageomin and the division, seeks to strengthen safety knowledge and skills in workers with less than two years of experience.

30 workers, both from our own and from collaborating companies, were part of the pioneering generation to take the Mining Safety Aptitude course, developed jointly by the El Teniente Division and the National Geology and Mining Service (Sernageomin).
The program, which consists of 24 hours of training and is called “Mining Safety Aptitude,” is aimed at people with less than two years of work experience and aims to strengthen knowledge and skills focused on mining safety, risk management and preventive tools, current legislative framework and control instruments.
“The highest priority will always be the safety of each of the country's workers, particularly for those of us in the mining industry. It goes beyond anything technical, normative or regulatory,” said Patricio Aguilera, national director of Sernageomin.
Collaborative work
El Teniente's general manager, Andrés Music, said that "we are proud of this collaboration and that the first workers to be trained are from the El Teniente Division, because through the training processes we change people's behaviors and mentalities. Our most important value is We Take Care of Ourselves, so we must do things as the regulations say, not improvise."
The organizers highlighted the collaborative work that gave rise to this course, in which the Association of Industrial Suppliers of Mining (APRIMIN) will also participate.
“We are really happy and proud that this course has started and we are glad that it is an extensive course for both the mining companies' own workers and for suppliers and contractors, with a standard course approved for the different mining operations in the industry,” said Oscar Hodges, executive coordinator of APRIMIN.
The head of the Sernageomin Mining and Geology Training Center, Rodrigo Beas, said that they are “very pleased that División El Teniente is the first company to teach this course together with us to certify workers and thus, with this course, ensure that people who are being hired by mining companies have the basic knowledge and we avoid accidents.”
