El Teniente, Sence and collaborating companies met to optimize job offers in the mining sector in the region

In a tripartite meeting and with the aim of closing the gap between supply and demand for employment, the parties discussed how training would match the requirements of companies.

A fruitful workshop to address the challenge of optimizing job opportunities in the region was held at El Teniente Stadium. The meeting brought together representatives of the National Training and Employment Service (Sence), Codelco El Teniente Division and 13 collaborating companies.

The meeting facilitated the exchange of experiences between the different actors, as well as the presentation of Sence training initiatives and the knowledge of the National Employment Exchange as a platform for reporting job offers.

Mauricio Muñoz, Director of Management and Supervision of Collaborating Companies at Codelco, said that “this initiative is especially important for collaborating companies due to the shortage of specialized workers that we have detected in some sectors, because companies cannot offer services if they do not have people.”

Bridging gaps

Jaime Chamorro, regional minister for Labour and Social Security for the O'Higgins region, highlighted the initiative: “It shows that public and private collaboration is possible and that it brings concrete measures aimed at the professional development of workers through the training work carried out by Sence, which is one of our local services.”

Along these lines, during the presentation made by Sence O'Higgins, it was highlighted that there is a qualified local workforce for different positions relevant to the mining sector but that, however, they would not be compatible with the positions offered by the companies. For this reason, the workshop sought to work to bring positions closer together and reduce the gap between job offers and demand for employment.
