The Teniente, together with local companies, promotes the cleaning of roads and areas at risk due to high temperatures

As part of the “Our Territory Free of Garbage” program, promoted by the mining company, teams made up of Coya workers have removed waste from the Carretera del Cobre and the surroundings of the Eteo Plant, in Olivar.

Codelco El Teniente Division, in its “Our Garbage-Free Territory” initiative, has cleaned more than 20 kilometers corresponding to section one of the El Cobre Highway and the sectors adjacent to the Eteo Plant (Olivar Transfer Station Plant).

The works have been carried out by the company F y V Servicios Integrales, whose staff is made up exclusively of residents of Coya, who have already removed 20 tons of waste and recycled 500 kilos of glass, 50 of aluminum and one ton of plastic.

Felipe Lara, F y V Supervisor, explained that as a company it is very important to have relationships with local suppliers. “We always try to seek the circular economy where we are providing the service, whether with lunch suppliers, transportation, or the suppliers of purified water that is given to workers daily, so that together we contribute to the locality,” he explained.

Hernán Hernández Encina, foreman of the cleaning crew, expressed his appreciation regarding the hiring of local labor, in which nearly 10 people were hired for this task. “The support that exists for each worker and their family is evident. With this, Codelco provides us with the labor part, which is a benefit for us and Coya.”

“We contribute to the environment. Keeping things clean is doing our part to protect the environment,” said Roberto Cataldo, a worker at the F y V company who has been involved in the cleanup of Carretera El Cobre and Olivar.

In addition to removing garbage from more than 20 kilometers of roads in different areas, the team is also responsible for making firebreaks that help reduce the risk of fires in those sectors. Previously, through the program “Our Garbage-Free Territory,” cleanup work was carried out in more than 16 sectors of the El Cobre Highway and 4 garbage collection points were installed, with a capacity of 700 liters each.
