El Teniente delivers equipment to strengthen medical care at the Coya Rural Post Office

Thanks to a collaboration between the copper company, the municipality of Machalí, the health centre and social organisations in the sector, the new facility will bring comprehensive care to the residents of the pre-mountainous town.

In an effort to improve the quality of medical care and generate social value in the community, Codelco División El Teniente delivered emergency equipment and dental x-rays to the Posta Rural de Coya. This contribution is part of a project managed in 2023, in collaboration with the community and the municipality of Machalí.

Violeta Ibáñez, a midwife and substitute manager at the clinic, said that “this project improves three main areas: the midwife’s office, the emergency area and dental services. The community is very happy because it makes up for the need to go to Rancagua to have x-rays done.”

Juan Reyes, currently in charge of the dental department of the clinic, added that "it will allow us to take x-rays that are necessary and ideal for providing better oral health care and a better diagnosis for each patient. It will help generate diagnoses much faster, provide better care and promote dental health for our users in this community."

The Coya Rural Post Office serves almost 2,100 people, many of whom face accessibility difficulties, especially during the winter. The implementation of this new equipment seeks to contribute to providing faster and more effective diagnoses and treatments.

Promote comprehensive health

Specifically, the El Teniente Division delivered a multi-parameter monitor, a laryngoscope kit, an infusion pump, a blood pressure set, lead aprons, furniture and dental x-ray equipment.

"The project was designed with the needs of the people of Coya in mind, since we are a town that is very far from the first health center. It is very important that the community receives this support," said Gloria López Correa, president of the Coya Renace Group, a community organization that is promoting this initiative.

Francisco Allan, Community Development Supervisor of El Teniente, said that “this contribution is a strong and direct support to the quality of life of the neighbors, who today see strengthened medical and dental care in their Rural Post, thanks to the commitment and collaborative work of a local community organization, the municipality and Codelco.”

This action is part of the health agreement established with this care center. Previously, support has been provided through the delivery of an exclusive ambulance, the acquisition of an ultrasound machine, the supply of medical supplies and the extension of medical care hours.
