El Teniente fully approves global seal of responsible production in its mines and foundry

Following an exhaustive review of 32 criteria grouped into categories such as Business and Human Rights, Community, Labor and Working Conditions, Environment and Governance, among others, the global responsible production program The Copper Mark confirmed that the processes for all its mines and smelter in the El Teniente Division meet high sustainability standards.

Thanks to this verification, the mining company in the O'Higgins region received the “Fully Meets” seal in 2024, which recognizes compliance in all the categories analyzed and shows that there are no gaps pending from the review carried out in March 2023, when it was certified for the first time.

Additionally, El Teniente also received the “The Molybdenum Mark” seal, which identifies global leadership in responsible Molybdenum production practices.

The Copper Mark standards include requiring participants to reduce their own carbon footprint and supply chain actors to increase the amount of recycled metal. The seal is a framework for ensuring the promotion of responsible production practices in mines, smelters and refineries and the mining industry's consequent contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The Copper Mark uses a rigorous assessment process at the site or mine site level to independently certify whether copper, nickel, zinc and molybdenum production operations meet required standards.

Obtaining the seal implies a commitment to evaluation every three years and the development of a comprehensive system of continuous improvement.
