With experience at different levels of the mine, Daniel Rubilar currently works as a mechanical maintenance technician at the Teniente 7 level of Codelco's El Teniente Division. It is precisely this career spanning more than a decade that led him to become the leader of his crew.

What is your job about?
My job is to keep the equipment active, to ensure production and that they are safe machines for the operators. Each piece of equipment undergoes maintenance, based on a plan that we make so that they can work in optimal conditions and maintain safety standards when operating manually, because these are LHD (front loaders) that operate with autonomous systems, without operators. But we must always have the equipment in perfect condition to be able to operate it in any type of condition and that it is in perfect condition.
What are the main challenges in your daily life?
The size of the teams means that we face several challenges and risks associated with this work. That is why safety is always the first topic we discuss at the beginning of the shift, talking about the associated risks, doing a good ART (Job Risk Analysis), which is always important to take care of each other as a group and also the colleague who is working on the other side. We always worry about the environment, so that nothing harms the safety of the workers.
What do you like most about your job?
As for maintenance, I really like everything. I have been working here with LHDs for 12 years and, for me, what I like most are the major jobs, changing components, engines and transmissions.
How long have you been in the division?
This year I will complete 14 years here. Initially, when I joined the company in 2010, I was in Diablo Regimiento. I also did major work in La Junta, in the Sub 6 workshop, in the major maintenance workshop in Dacita, and then I came here to Teniente 7, where I am the leader of group 2.
What do you feel the Lieutenant has brought to your life?
El Teniente has given me a lot of knowledge in my work environment and about LHD equipment. He has taught me a lot about considering the security system as a fundamental basis for our work and about managing the equipment assets well, so that they always work in good conditions and also protecting the colleagues who operate this equipment. For me, this job is wonderful and I feel proud. These are jobs that involve risks, but also a lot of learning and over the years, I have learned many things here. I am proud of this company, of this job, of the opportunity I have to be here, to fulfill my role and to teach those who are entering the Division.
