The state-owned company's board of directors unanimously approved the appointment of the executives at a meeting held yesterday. In the case of Viveros, the decision included an external search process; while for Sougarret, the board opted for direct nomination.
Santiago, September 25, 2025.- Codelco announces that, following the unanimous approval by the board of directors of the management proposal, Claudio Sougarret will assume the role of general manager of the El Teniente Division, while Patricio Viveros was selected to take over as general manager of the Salvador Division. Both executives, with extensive experience at the company, will lead the management of these operations during a key stage of productive development and organizational transformation.
Sougarret, an industrial civil engineer with a minor in mechanics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and an MBA from the same university, has a distinguished career in mining spanning more than 35 years, both in the national industry and at Codelco. He joined El Teniente as interim general manager last August and now assumes the position as the permanent general manager, having demonstrated solid management skills during particularly challenging times for the division, as it recovers from the July 31 accident.
The company highlights his extensive experience in mining projects, underground operations management, and leadership of high-performance teams, in addition to his deep knowledge of the O'Higgins division and proven leadership, all attributes that inspire confidence in his ability to drive the development of strategic initiatives for El Teniente and key to the corporation's future.
Meanwhile, Patricio Viveros, a metallurgical civil engineer from the University of Concepción and a master's degree in Mineral Economics from the University of Chile, was appointed general manager of the Salvador Division. With more than 25 years of experience at Codelco, primarily in the Chuquicamata and Salvador divisions, Viveros has led large-scale teams and achieved significant achievements in efficiency, cost reduction, meeting production targets, and managing union and community relations.
Until now, he served as interim general manager of Salvador, a position in which he led the operation with a focus on stabilizing production and launching the Rajo Inca project. The Corporation highlights his in-depth knowledge of the division, his pragmatic and execution-oriented leadership style, as well as his ability to listen and reach agreements.
Codelco's management and board of directors emphasize that both appointments are part of the company's commitment to developing talent to strengthen its operations and structural projects, in line with its strategy to ensure the company's future and its contribution to the country.
