Codelco launches its 2024 Sustainability Report and reinforces its commitment to transparency and sustainable development.

The document highlights the state-owned company's progress in human rights, climate action, the circular economy, social management, and environmental governance, among other topics reported in accordance with high international standards, and launches its ESG Databook, a tool that systematizes and makes freely available the main indicators for the period. "Sustainability is not just a dream: it is the only possible path for a mining industry that serves Chile and the planet," says Codelco's CEO, Rubén Alvarado.

Santiago, June 12, 2025.- In line with its purpose of being a pillar of sustainable development in Chile and the world, Codelco published its 2024 Sustainability Report, a document that accounts for the progress made by the Corporation during the year in the areas of environmental and social management, reaffirming its commitment to responsible mining focused on climate action, territories, and shared value.

“2024 was a year of profound transformation, in which we consolidated modern governance, with committed people and a long-term vision. Sustainability is not just a dream: it is the only possible path for a mining industry that serves Chile and the planet,” comments Codelco CEO Rubén Alvarado.

The report, prepared in accordance with the recommendations of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), presents the progress of the Corporation's sustainability strategy with a high level of rigor and transparency. It also includes a series of significant events that mark the company's path toward increasingly sustainable operations.

Responsible production and electrification

Among the year's significant milestones is the maintenance of The Copper Mark responsible production seal across all its divisions. A new recertification cycle will begin at the end of 2025, incorporating more variables than the previous version.

In terms of climate action, the company made significant progress in decarbonizing its operations by incorporating new electric buses for personnel transportation in Salvador and Radomiro Tomic, bringing the total number of such vehicles allocated to all work sites to 271. This figure makes Codelco the company with the largest electric fleet in the entire national mining industry.

Likewise, contracts were signed in 2024 to ensure that, by 2030, 100% of Codelco's energy mix will be based on renewable sources.

Water management and circular economy

In the water sector, Codelco achieved a reduction of 310 liters per second in water consumption in basins with high water stress, equivalent to a 12% improvement, thanks to the implementation of recirculation projects in Andina and the use of treated wastewater in the Northern Operations.

The Corporation also presented substantial progress in its circular economy strategy, recovering 49.4% of non-hazardous waste and leading the ICMM working group on this matter globally. Furthermore, in 2024, the state-owned company recycled 5,835 tons of end-of-life tires (ELTs) and retreaded another 939 tons, five times the volume processed the previous year.

Human Rights and Social Value

In 2024, Codelco launched its first comprehensive strategy to ensure the promotion and respect for human rights in its operations and throughout its value chain. This has involved, among other things, training more than 1,500 workers and including its contractor companies in innovative audits. These measures allowed the Corporation to obtain the highest score among Chilean public companies in the Third Diagnostic on Business and Human Rights developed by the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.

Furthermore, during the year, Codelco allocated more than US$17.37 million to social investment initiatives aimed at local development, reaffirming its commitment to generating value in the territories where it operates. These initiatives included training programs for young leaders, medical operations, community infrastructure projects, support for family farming, and plans to improve security in various locations. In addition, Codelco promoted the hiring of local suppliers and labor as part of a roadmap that seeks to mitigate impacts and actively contribute to the well-being and progress of communities.

“Sustainability is a key and strategic enabler of our business. Not only does it allow us to comply with current regulations and operate more efficiently and resiliently, but it also strengthens our relationship with our territories and communities. This is what gives us the social legitimacy to continue being part of Chile's development,” says Gabriel Méndez, Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Codelco.

ESG Databook: Transparency in the provision of information

As part of its efforts to increase transparency and facilitate access to information, this year Codelco presented its ESG Databook for the first time, a tool that systematizes the main environmental, social, and governance indicators for the period.

This document, prepared in accordance with the international standards of the GRI and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), and available on Codelco's website , allows for quick and clear consultation of key data on sustainable performance, such as emissions, energy consumption, water management and relations with communities.
