In a moment marked by grief and reflection, the CEO met with El Teniente workers to listen to their concerns and reaffirm the commitment to moving forward together toward safer mining. The event was part of a corporate outreach effort involving more than 2,000 people across all of the company's divisions.
Codelco CEO Rubén Alvarado, along with Vice President of Operations Mauricio Barraza, led a day of corporate reflection at the El Teniente Division, marked by dialogue and support for workers following the tragic accident that claimed the lives of six people at the workplace.
Accompanied by the division's general manager, Andrés Music, the executives shared conversations with more than 200 workers from the Caletones Smelter and more than 100 from the Concentrator Plant in Colón. During these meetings, they discussed the measures taken following the accident, the progress of the investigations, and, above all, the concerns, emotions, and proposals of those involved in the operation were heard.
"We met with our own employees and those of our partner companies to discuss what we're experiencing, this period of profound grief in which we've lost six of our colleagues," Alvarado explained.
The executive added that, in the conversation, they pledged to "do everything humanly possible to rearm, contain, and support each other as a team. Chile needs us and demands that we learn, that we live through this pain and stand up for the memory of our six colleagues, their families, and the entire country."
Territorial deployment
General Manager Andrés Music detailed the immediate actions taken after the accident, as well as the collaborative work with organizations such as Sernageomin and international experts. "This must be the saddest and most painful period we've experienced as a division in recent decades; it's something that defines us. We are a company for all Chileans; they need us, and we have that vision: to elevate mining activity," Music noted.
During the day, corporate vice presidents and executives from each division also deployed throughout the Corporation, holding in-person meetings and working teams connected remotely, involving more than 2,000 people in the Gabriela Mistral, Ventanas, Salvador, Radomiro Tomic, Ministro Hales, Chuquicamata, and Andina divisions.
