Angel Lopez, founder of the Santa Cecilia de Olivar Sports Club, receives tribute at El Teniente Stadium

The club was part of the Codelco División El Teniente Stadium Experience program, on which occasion they played a friendly match in honor of Ángel López Sotelo, one of its founders and distinguished players who, at 98 years old, keeps alive his love and passion for the group.

A milestone in the history of Club Deportivo Santa Cecilia was marked at the El Teniente stadium. This club, founded on November 19, 1919 in Olivar, not only held a friendly match, but the El Teniente Division, together with the residents of the commune, paid tribute to one of its founders and most beloved figures: Ángel López Sotelo.

Ángel López Sotelo, 98, said he was moved by the tribute and proud of the path he has taken with his club. “It is a joy for me that Santa Cecilia is playing here. Today I held back tears. I was so emotional. I feel proud, I am happy for the club and because they have paid tribute to me,” he said while watching his team play.

After a few words and the presentation of gifts to the historic player by his club, the municipality and the Community Directorate of the El Teniente Division, the friendly match was held, which was played by the current players of the Santa Cecilia Sports Club, who shared the field with workers from the Services and Supplies Management of Codelco El Teniente Division.

Cristian Sanhueza, Community Development Director at El Teniente, highlighted the value of these initiatives: “They contribute to the social value of the Division, in such a way as to have that closeness and trust with the neighboring communities. Today, at Experiencia Estadio, through sport, we open our assets to a team of more than 100 years from the commune of Olivar, close to our operations.”

Yohana Montecinos, president of the Santa Cecilia Sports Club, highlighted the importance of the event for the organization she leads: “It is a very nice experience for the players because there are many who did not even know the stadium and being here, for them, is something very gratifying.”

The mayor of Olivar, María Estrella Montero, said that “for the club's players it is something tremendously important; for Don Ángel's family as well, it is something that perhaps they dreamed of one day, but they never imagined that today it would be a reality.”

To date, more than 9,000 people have visited El Teniente Stadium through the Stadium Experience program this year, of which nearly 500 are residents of Olivar. This program allows communities to visit the sports complex and learn about all its facilities through guided tours, promoting camaraderie and physical activity.
