The copper company and the sports club joined forces to invite various football schools to the region's main venue as part of the Codelco División El Teniente Stadium Experience Program.
For two days, the El Teniente stadium, belonging to Codelco, welcomed 250 boys and girls from sports schools in the region to play in the Friendship Tournament, an initiative organized jointly by the Division and the O'Higgins sports club.
Two sports clubs and more than 10 schools from Rancagua, Rengo, Pichidegua, Codegua and Machalí participated in the championship.
“The idea of organizing this championship was to continue growing and developing the Stadium Experience program with different activities and to link football with the community so that they can use this space for both pedagogical and sporting learning,” said Rómulo García Anfossi, coordinator of the Stadium Experience program.
For his part, from O'Higgins, the sports manager, Pablo Calandria, assured that these initiatives are important for boys and girls to get to know each other. "It is important that the children have this moment and these activities to get out of their homes, generate competition and build bonds," he said.
The winners of the tournament were the members of the Millonarios children's football club. Their coach, Juan Orellana Cerda, who lived through the entire process with his team, said that "it has been an unforgettable experience for the children, who more than anything come to this Sports Complex already being high-performance footballers."
The guardians, who were also part of the Friendship Cup, were in charge of cheering on each of the teams. “I think it is an important experience for the family. These are moments that they will never forget,” said María Los Ángeles Boeto, guardian of one of the players.
