The President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, announced (March 2006) the appointment of José Pablo Arellano as President & Chief Executive Officer of Codelco.
It follows a brief summary of his curriculum:

 
 

José Pablo Arellano Marín was born in Santiago in 1952. He is married to Manena Recabarren and they have four children.

Until March 2006 he was Chairman osf the Board of Fundación Chile and member of the Board of the National TV Channel and the State Bank, as well as of three non profit education corporations and several companies.

In September 1996 he was appointed Ministry of Education, position which he held until 2000.

Also, Arellano was Budget Director of the Ministry of Finance between 1990 and 1996. He was Chairman of the Council of Presidents of Chilean Universities; Chairman of the Higher Council for Education and the Council of National Monuments.

He was Alternate Governor for Chile at the World Bank (1990-1996); and Executive Director of CIEPLAN (Corporation for Latin-American Studies), between 1984 and 1989, after being research fellow at the same institution.

José Pablo Arellano has held teaching positions at the Catholic University of Chile, the University of Chile, the Adolfo Ibáñez University (Chile) and Notre Dame University (France).

He has also been consultant for the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the Inter-American Development Bank and the United Nations.

He has acted as consultant and participated in technical assistance missions in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, the Philipines, Latvia, Lithuania, Peru y Romania.

He was Chairman of the Justice and Peace Commission of the Chilean Episcopate and president of the Assembly of the Organization for Education of Iberoamérica (1996-1998).

He has published works in various academic journals and has written four books.
