Codelco has more than 16,000 workers that make possible to
maintain its leadership position in the copper industry, represented
by the the poroduction of more than 1.63 million tons of the
metal, equivalent to approximately 15% of the world production.
Its activities also generate many indirect jobs.
Codelco also is one of the main world producers of molybdenum,
which is obtained as a byproduct of copper, with an annual
production of 19,901 tons (2002).
Codelco´s operations are mainly carried out through
its mining divisions located in several regions of Chile:
Codelco Norte Division (which since august 2002 has fused
the former Divisions Chuquicamata and Radomiro Tomic), Salvador
Division, Andina Division and El Teniente Division. Also,
Talleres Division, which is a metalmechanic unit.
The Head Office of Codelco is located in Santiago, Chile.
In Chile, Codelco also owns 49% of the Sociedad Contractual
Minera El Abra and of Agua de la Falda S.A.
Codelco also participates both in Chile and abroad in mining,
non mining and business associations aimed at geological surveying,
technological collaboration, exchange of goods and services
and shipping services, among others.
Codelco also has subsidiaries and a network of sales agents
that make it possible to develop the commercialization strategy.
