Codelco is the main copper producer in the world. The Corporation also controls around 20% of the world reserves of this metal.

The Name Codelco represents the Corporación Nacional del Cobre de Chile, an autonomous company owned by the Chilean State which main business is the exploration, development and exploitation of copper mineral resources and byproducts, their processing to refined copper and its commercialization.

The Corporation has total assets for 8.833 million dollars and a net worth close to 2.872 million dollars (december 2004). In 2004 Codelco generated more than 16% of the exports of Chile.

Codelco´s operations are carried out mainly through its Divisions, and its corporate strategy is coordinated from the Head Office in Santiago, Chile. From the Chilean ports it sends its products to some 250 clients around the planet, mainly grade A cathode, with a copper content of 99.99%.

At the beginnings of the XXI century Codelco´s vision is set in the future. Its strategic project aims at reinforcing its business capacity, market defense, the incorporation of new technologies, the promotion of new uses for copper in the modern world and to achieve a production that is environmentally, economically and socially sustainable.
