A strategy of sustainability implies real actions towards the environment.

In the case of the atmospheric emissions, Codelco has administration and control plans destined to achieve the capture or control of the regulated contaminators as for example arsenic, sulfur dioxide and particulate material, issued by the smelters, mining operations and other processes.

On the other hand, efforts are underway to eliminate, reduce and recirculate the liquid wastes so as to minimize their impact on the environment. One of the features of this strategy is to encourage technological research aimed at generating more efficient waste management processes.

All of the Divisions of Codelco have solid waste management programs. One of the priorities is the cleaning of waste sites and the improvement of their facilities or, if required, the building of new ones.

Also, Codelco has well defined strategies to achieve greater efficience in water and energy use.
